Members Forum Help
Here are brief explanations of some of the questions you may have about the Members Forum.
- How does this system work?
- Do I have to use my real name and e-mail address when posting a message?
- Can I use HTML tags anywhere in my posts?
- How do I get the script to notify me when someone posts a reply to my message?
- Why are there brackets in the message section when I try to post a followup?
- Why didn't my post show up?
- Why didn't my search turn up any hits?
- How do I contact someone who has posted a message?
- What are your future plans for the Members Forum?
On the front page for the Members Forum, you will see the current messages, as well as a form that allows you to post a new message.
Do I have to use my real name and e-mail address when posting a message?
Yes and no. The name and e-mail address that you enter when posting a message will be automatically included in your post. Therefore, you can use a pseudoname if you like, but please use your real e-mail address. That way, anyone wishing to respond to your message will be able to click on the link to your e-mail address. Moreover, if you choose the automatic notification option, the program will be able to automatically notify you anytime someone posts a followup to your message.
Can I use HTML tags anywhere in my posts?
Yes, for now. We will remove this feature if it is abused.
How do I get the program to notify me when someone posts a reply to my message?
It's easy. Simply check the box marked "Check here if you want responses to your message e-mailed to you", and that's exactly what the program will do!
Why are there brackets (>) in the message when I try to post a followup?
Brackets appear in the message dialog box when you post a followup up to a message to indicate that those lines are quoting the previous document. If you don't want to quote the previous message, simply delete the brackets and quoted text.
Your post most likely did not show up because your browser did not reload the page but instead simply pulled it out of the cache. Please hit the reload button on your browser. Your post should then appear.
Why didn't my search turn up any hits?
The Members Forum is brand new, so there may not be very many messages yet. Another possibility, however, is that your search criteria was too narrow. Go back to the search form and leave more of the search fields blank. For the broadest possible search, leave all search fields blank.
How do I contact someone who has posted a message?
Each message lists the e-mail address of the person who posted the message. This listing is also a link, so you can click on the person's e-mail address to send the person a reply message.
What are your future plans for the Members Forum?
We may eventually add a feature whereby you could sign up to automatically receive new messages that are posted by e-mail (you can already do this for messages that you have posted). We also might eventually add a feature that would allow the program to keep track of which messages you've already seen. That way, it would tell you how many new messages have been posted since the last time you visited. If you would like to see some of these features, let us know.
